About the Producer

In 1951 Chacho de Castro was born in Curacao (one of the five Islands of the Netherlands Antilles) to a family of 8 children. His father Gregorio Nancianceno de Castro, born in 1908, was an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, who arrived on the Island in the second decade of the 20th century, while his mother, Columba Baptista, a Venezuelan immigrant who was born in 1912, emigrated to Curaçao in the following decade. They met on this Island, married and created a very close family. Gregorio was a business man who went from being an employee of a local tile factory to managing his first business of importing vegetables and fruit from his homeland to owning a Floor-tile factory that was situated on the outskirts of Willemstad, the Capital of Curaçao.
Columba took the profession of House-Mother very seriously and took pride in her childrens' achievements.
Chacho being the 6th child in the family, had quite a choice of energetic role models in the family. On the invitation of his second eldest brother, Humberto Nicolas, he chose St. Maarten (A Netherlands Antillean Island, further north in the Caribbean) as his second home. After posing as assintant manager and manager of a couple of businesses on St. Maarten, it became obvious to him that Television was his calling.
Chacho produced and presented his first television program "Concentration", a game show after the American version with the same name, in 1975.
He lived in St. Maarten from 1970 to 1988 when he moved back to Curacao, the main Island of the five that make up The Netherlands Antilles.
After having owned a Fashion Clothing Boutique in St. Maarten he started a very small clothing store in Curacao. It wasn't long after when he found his path once again in a Television Program fashioned after the American 60 minutes. An investigative TV-reporting program that is produced to this day.
"Kontakto" started on the air on Channel 8, Telecuracao in 1982 and was shortly afterwards converted into National TV-Program. Kontakto has since become known for it's investigative qualities that brought the producer to, Argentina, Cuba, Venezuela, and many Caribbean Islands.
Chacho de Castro has been very consistent from the beginning and just like previous years, the last (1999) has been a very succesfull one. His succesful carreer with Television is emphasized by several factors.
The prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles, Ing. Don Martina in a letter to the producer Chacho de Castro dated 1982

"Permit me to experess through this, a warm congratulation for the presentation of "Kontakto" that has proven to be a very intructive program that fits with the neccesity of our community for more and better information in favour of a critical and just public opinion."

Don Martina
Prime Minister Netherlands Antilles
Willemstad, June 29, 1982.

This letter, just like the programs, expresses the closeness of the producer and his public.

Skipping very succesfull years and jumping into 1999, The Secretary of Traffic and Communication, also wrote to the producer, Oswaldo F. de Castro.
